Every hour, our research teams create new patents to make our products even more effective, easier to operate, safer and more environment-friendly. Research is done in the fields of systems of the future and technologies of the future with three sectors each.
Systems of the future
High-tech products from Bosch are complex. They have an intricate inner life involving diverse components that must function reliably despite a host of external influences. Researchers at Bosch are therefore always thinking of components and subassemblies in the context of a system composed of mutually interacting parts and subassemblies.
Research sectors:
- Future Automotive Systems
- Software Intensive Systems
- Future Systems for Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods and Building
Technologies of the future
New products must be based on a solid foundation derived from innovative technologies and processes. Bosch researchers are therefore exploring the foundations in materials science and manufacturing engineering for high-quality products that must not only be produced in quantities ranging in the millions but must also retain the same high quality throughout their service life.
Research sectors:
- Advanced Functional Materials and Microsystem Technologies
- Principles and Design of Components for Energy Conversion
- Metal and Plastics Technology, Production Automation
Enormous Innovatory Power
1,300 employees*, 79% of whom are scientists* and engineers*, work in the central area of corporate research. Equipped with a research budget of 253 million Euros, 230 projects and services were worked on in 2007. The university contacts are excellent, as proven by 143 cooperative endeavours with universities and institutions as well as 230 supervised doctoral students and students about to take their diplomas.
In the future, too, the researchers from corporate research will be pursuing both entrepreneurial and general business aims: Their innovations result in appealing products that not only improve the quality of our lives but that also actively help build a more secure future for the Bosch Group.
